And just like that, vacation is officially over. The last of my boarders have left (autumnchestnut and dea_liberty, with special guest appearance by thesleepingkat) and I am back at work trying to make sense of all the crap that happened while I was gone. Alas, poor mailbox.

The actual vacation, though, was roughly a million kinds of awesome. Niagra Falls was incredibly gorgeous, if freezing goddamn cold, and the drive was surprisingly painless (it probably helped that none of us could shut up for five minutes). My apartment was not too small, everyone was fabulous and I got to run around doing silly touristy things and hang out in my favorite museums. And I finally went and got my industrial piercing done, which I've only been putting off for about six years or so.

But mostly I got to hang out and be dorky with some of my favoritest people that I see rarely if ever, so! A++, would vacation again. Right now, preferably.

Important things what I have learned this weekend: Wincon is a bad time to completely lose your voice.

But the whole thing was made of win and awesome and everybody was very understanding of me being a poor, pathetic plague-carrier. I think just about everyone at the con came by at some point to pet me on the head. And, of course, there were the Christian Bale and Batman jokes and the Harvey Firestein jokes and the 14 year old boy jokes because people seem to think they are FUNNY. They are not.

But oh, was there awesome. Ludicrous Cher levels of Awesome. There were inside jokes and cracky signs and how not to be a douche on the internet and how to actually be a douche on the internet (deidre_c gets an instant A) and EPIC BADFIC LOLZ and much hugging and cuddling and happily dancing like the dorkiest dork imaginable and being very, very tall and getting to hang out with my favoritest people and getting to meet new awesome people and general good times all around. I miss everyone already. COME BACK I WILL GIVE YOU MORE HUGS AND NOT COUGH ON YOU.

And then dea_liberty almost couldn't get on the plane, but that's a different story.

Work has been (and continues to be) utterly psychotic. But I powered through last week, dealt with Time Warner Fail, finally got the weekend and...promptly got sick. YAY. Still, I managed to go for a pretty decent walk and give my apartment a good scrubbing anyway, so I call it a win.

But you better believe I am kicking this thing's ass hard and fast. I've got a whole hotel full of fangirls to go annoy, I don't get to be sick. Especially since there are few things I can think of wanting to do less than flying with a headcold.

Thursday. Just have to survive until Thursday. Wincoooon. \o/

I've had a couple stray thoughts percolating on 5.01 since last week, and now seems like a good a time as any to post them. So! ( My ponderings, allow me to subject them to your perusal )

After only a few months of procrastination, I am finally go for Wincon. Got my registration, got my plane tickets. Now all I need to do is ignore my mother's clothing advice for Winprom (proper apocalyptic dress consists of tutus and corsets, apparently) and I'm all set. Well, and get a hotel room. Minor details.

In other news, I am completely sick of both my layout and almost all of my icons, but I'm too tired and lazy to do much about either. My life: hardest hard. I am starting graphic design classes again as of today, though, so maybe I'll learn something new and shiny. Or maybe I'll just wind up bored out of my mind for another twelve hours. I will learns good!

So I did indeed get to go to the RiffTrax Live show, and lo was it a concentrated ball of awesome. Excepting the guy in front of me who responded to "hey, the movie's starting, could you shut your cellphone off," with an unbelievably snotty, "maybe," and "if you focused on the screen it wouldn't be a problem." Luckily he did actually shut it off, so I was not forced to feed it to him.

Other than that, the whole thing was deeply cool, and the crowd was really into it. It was actually oversold to the point where they had to open a second theater, but everyone seemed to have a good time. You know it's gonna be fun when the entire theater is applauding despite the fact that everyone is aware the screen can't hear them. However, also involved was a cross-country singalong of Jonathon Coulton's Re: Your Brains which we were pretty sure the screen couldn't hear either, so you know.

And of course, there was the epic, superlative piece of fabulousness that is Plan 9 From Outer Space. Oh Ed Wood. How are you so awesome in a way I'm really sure you didn't intend (Quoth my mother and I: mom: "You know, he actually found someone to distribute that." me: "Yeah and?" mom: "I'm just saying." me: "If he can, anyone can?"). I laughed til I cried repeatedly, and all was well.

Not bad for a Thursday.

See the shiny thing around my neck? Yes, the star. No, it's not a Star of David. Yeah. It means that I am a lot more likely to be taking Thor* as my lord and savior than I am Jesus. I'm sure he was a nice guy and all, but I really don't want to discuss him with you. Or my plans for after my death. Or my sins. Really.

Therefore I would really appreciate it if you'd stop coming by, especially extremely early in the morning on weekends. Or after work when I am tired and crabby. Or any time at all, really.

Life is annoying, but many important questions have been raised recently. What the hell is up with fandom? Should I just suck it up and get a Twitter account already? How am I planning to finish my big bang artwork without Photoshop? Why are people handing out information on Dianetics in the middle of Times Square (subquery: is Scientology hurting for money?)?Is the universe ready for a Blazing Saddles J2 AU?

I must retreat to the wilderness to ponder up these and other issues.

It's time to send everybody at MTV home. Permanently. For I have found the single ( greatest music video ever )

Last week was kind of odd, I spent the entire time in a state of serious exhaustion for no apparent reason. This is especially depressing in that I had absolutely no work to do and wasn't even in a state to appreciate or take advantage of it.

Therefore my whole weekend was spent alternately sleeping and cursing at photoshop. I do feel much better, though, so hey.

And there there's the big bang art. Aigh. Considering the number of factors that meant I couldn't even really start until Saturday, I think I did pretty well. As usual, my concepts vastly outweigh my actual skill level which meant I spent about six hours straight fighting with a technique doing it's damndest to make me cry, but at least Stuff Got Done. And my first piece doesn't have to go up for a month, so I've got more time to be a psychotic perfectionist about it.

Now I just have to figure out what else I was supposed to be doing.

I, like just about everyone else on the planet seem to have fallen head first into the rebooted Star Trek. At least insofar as hunting down fic to read and giggling to myself. That said, everyone should go join soblazn_chekov, because if I'm not going to write anything I can at least make other people do it for me.

Took the parents to see it last weekend, as they (especially mom) are oldschool Trek watchers and I was curious to see what they thought. They both loved it. Take that, cranky old fans. Then my mom regaled me with a tale of the time she and my aunt went to the Very First Star Trek Convention EVAR. And then left early because they thought it was boring. Ah, my family. (She also hit me for cackling too hard at the GI Joe preview, but that is in no way, shape or form my fault. C'mon, GI Joe movie!)

Today is my ljnniversary (three years, seriously) and I thought a change might be in order. I'd hoped to have a full journal overhaul done, but for various reasons it didn't happen. I'm still determined, though, so hopefully that'll be soon.
